How Handy Are You?
Changed a few links around to make them more relevant to the site. Added amazon.com links. Let me know if they are too invasive.
Unlike in the past, installing a ceiling fan into an existing location - perhaps removing an old ceiling fan and installing a new one out of the box in its place - is relatively simple.
I have searched the web and found quite a few good sites for you to read a "how to." When time permits I will write up my own version of the how to install a ceiling fan into an existing location, but for now this list of other sites that offer a how to will have to do.
Most people or homeowners are not aware of the fact that ceiling fans now come almost completely ready to go. You snap a few pins in here and there and then throw on a few wire nuts and they are ready to install. I have gotten to the point that I can do an entire removal and installation of a ceiling fan in under 10 minutes - start to finish.
There is some assembly required in any ceiling fan or other electrical installation, but as I said it is at a minimum now. The manufacturers have realized that they will sell more fans if they make it easy for the average person to install.
I would reccomend that you be careful with anything that involves electricity, and if you are not skilled or comfortable with it then you should hire a professional. Always check to see that the power is off and that all breakers are also in the off position. Then ensure that you have used a small handlheld power detector too!
Enough of my talk about ceiling fans and their manufacturers. Here is my list of online resources for this simple task.
I hope that this has been helpful and that you were able to use the information I found for you. I will do what I can to put up my own version of how to install a ceiling fan at some point. For now you can also check out my other blogs!!
